Just got this guy 2 days ago. The guy I got him from was "almost sure it was a roo" and he's between 12 and 14 weeks old, no crowing yet but he does look much more roo-ish than my 12 week old pullets. He is absolutely half Buff Orpington, I saw the dad and he is HUGE and gorgeous but the guy wasn't sure who the mother was. Could be Buff Orpington, Leghorn, RIR, or Light Brahma. I think the Light Brahma is out because I saw one of those crosses there that was the same age and it was much larger.

Does he look like purebred Buff Orpington or a cross? He's leaner and smaller than I would expect a purebred BO just looking on the net at others of the same age. Also, he is the same size as my 12 week old New Hampshire Red pullet. I'm new to chickens and just wanted to see if I really got the BO rooster I was hoping for.

With these yelow legs he can not be pure Orpington.Orpingtons have white legs.He looks more Buff Rock

Darn! I didn't know that BO's couldn't have yellow legs! Oh well, I was hoping for a purebred BO but I'll keep him anyways :-)

Is he for sure a roo?

It is a Hatchery type Buff Rock and not a Buff Orpington...

I think I agree. Orpingtons are rounder and puffier.

If it is a mix from the man you got him from, then your best bet is that the mother was the Rhode Island Red. If it was the Leghorn, he would be white with a little gold leakage.
