I need to play the "sex my silkie game" too

though I'm pretty sure of the answers already, just need confirmation from someone who knows more about silkies than I do. This is our first time having them so everything is a mystery right now. I have figured out I have two pullets because they are so different than these 3 guys. The two buffs are roosters (already trying to crow and "get it on" with the ladies) but the white one really has me baffled though I'm thinking boy. He/she looks like a rooster in the face but has no rooster tendencies at all. We are keeping the white one no matter what since my daughter and it are really attached, but would like to name "it" properly, lol...is it Gloria or Gilbert?

Oh and they are all 13-14 weeks old and just hatchery silkies from the feed store.

i would say its a gilbert, im sorry. im not sure though, but the stature, face, and feathers are definitly those of a roo. is philomath anywhere near medford, oregon? because i like your buff roos and would be delighted to have 1 if not both

Medford is about 2 hours south I think? We are in between Salem and Eugene (45 minutes from Eugene). And thank you

I feel he is a Gilbert too, but how strange is it to have two very docile roosters? My cochin is so tame...not rooster-like at all. Lol the ladies all pick on him and steal his treats.

Hmm, yeah thats about 2-3 hours driving depending on which way you go and how fast you drive, we live about 45 minutes north of medford. Do you for any reason ever come down here? Are you giving the buff roos away for free?

I am to the right home. They are listed on Craigslist now for $5 each but I do waive that if I like the person and get a good feel about them. I get so attached to my little guys that I always make sure they get the best possible life after they leave me. I've been really lucky in finding good homes for all my roosters over the past year.

Oh yes, they are both tame. They do not like to be held like my other silkie rooster does, but they are not aggressive or mean at all. They will walk around near you, but like to give you a chase if you try to catch them. Once caught, they shriek but then settle down. I am still trying to figure out which one dominant but I would have to say Nate at this time. He is the one always trying to crow and jumping on the girls. Conrad just watches lol. They both love treats and playing with the other chickens...keep away, chase, catching bugs etc. They come running to my feet begging whenever I come out into the run. They are very attached to their little flock within my flock so it kills me to have to separate all of them, but 4 roosters is too many for 30 chickens. You sound like the perfect home for them! Maybe we could meet in the middle?

Just an update for anyone else wondering what the sex of their silkie is...

The white one is a girl, just much older than the other silkies we had so therefore, more developed. She is laying eggs and Blake, our cochin rooster loves her

The buff ones are roosters (started crowing not long after this post) and have been rehomed to a very nice farm outside my town. Happy endings for all and we can now officially name her Gladys

(not my choice lol)

Aww that's cool she was a hen!

I have 9 silkie chicks about 4 weeks old. And a cochin bantam (I think) that I am dying to know the gender of.

Anyways congrats on sending your lovely roos to a good home.

I hope I'll be able to find homes for my roos. Well If I have 10 pullets that would be a miracle!

Anything is possible! I had 5 total silkies, 3 are girls. I consider that not bad. We were so sure the white one was a rooster until this morning. I was able to tell about my cochin banty around 4 weeks. You should post a photo and see what people thing. My little guy had really large red waddles and comb by 4 weeks compared to his mate who still has nothing. Other than my silkies, I love my cochins.

Good luck!
