conflicting suggestions, what is right, what is wrong ? SOUR CROP

Quote:
thankyou. I've never used it either, so, I'm curious as well. I 've read for it to be used as a preventative for many things, and I've read that it shouldn't be used on a bird who already has the condition. I'm so confused, haha. Doesn't take much sometimes.

emjay, this is what I figure. If you try to help your hen and she dies, at least you tried. If you don't try, she'll likely die anyway.

The other option is a vet, unless you feel like doing crop surgery yourself, which no way would I feel comfortable doing.

I went 2 years without knowing what sour crop was or even thinking about worms. What a rude awakening, and just when spring is here and the birds should be starting to have their fun.

I am also wondering if I should treat with a dewormer med at the same time, or if that would be too much of a shock to the system

I heard wormers are hard on them as it is, I don't know if I'd give it to a sour crop hen, but what do I know...

(you should probably do the opposite of what I say, with my track record!)

She seems perky this morning, her crop didnt miraculously shrink overnite, wishful thinking.
I am going to cook up some more eggs, applesauce, yogurt and garlic. will try ti only give her the garlic stuff
They are still on timeout from freeranging on the lush green spring grass.
She is my Blue, fingers crossed.
