Someone please school me...
I just noticed the other day that my 2 EE's have different looking combs! Then I stumbled upon a post about the blue egg laying gene being closely tied to the pea comb gene etc. etc...and it got me wondering about their combs (only because my girls are 22 weeks and not laying yet and I'm waiting anxiously for an egg! GRRRRR! but that's for another post!).

Is this considered a single comb because it only has one ridge? or a pea comb because it's small and low to the head?

This is a typical pea comb with the 3 ridges, right?

My easter egger had a comb just like the one in the first couple of photos. I called it a wavy comb, but I don't know the real term for it. As she was developing, I began to worry she would not lay blue or green eggs because it wasn't a peacomb. I was a bit disappointed, but not surprised when she laid her first egg at about 24 weeks and it wasn't what I was expecting, but it was yellowish brown.

Here is a picture with her egg in it.

It is the egg that is second from the left, the white ones is on the left of it and the light brown one is on the right of it. It looked more yellowish in real life.

Where did your Easter Eggers come from?

That is Pea combs.Depends how many copies of the gene bird has and other faktors that can make slaghtly diferent shape

Now those are some nice looking eggs! I could live with yellow!

So it's probably not considered a pea comb then. yeah, originally I was hoping for a green egg...but now I'm just hoping to get an egg! I got my girls from a feed store and didn't think to ask at the time where they purchased from. I feel like I got lucky because I think they are gorgeous!

Very pretty girls! My EE's were some of the last to lay (only one of the Australorps was later) but they are some of the sweetest hens I have. Of my three one of them has a wavy comb like yours and does not have muffs or beard and she lays a khaki green/brown egg. The other two lay seafoam grean and blue green.

I don't, but I'll get one sometime this weekend and post it if you like. She's a goofy little bird, won't lay in the nest boxes but has a favorite corner in the barn instead. I have 12 boxes for 19 hens but she likes to take her time (2-3 hours) and apparently feels the need for lots of privacy.

Yes! Please post if you get a chance, I'd love to see her egg. woah...2-3 hours?! I had no idea some chickens needed that much time to lay.
