Confused about Grit

Hmmm, I never heard of a feed that came with grit in it? I would keep the chick starter going until at least 7-8 weeks of age. Then after they reach that age I would go with a grower mash. Separate from the mash I use oyster shell and grit mix. The birds really know what they need and will just peck at the oyster shell and grit when they need it. If your girls are going to be free range they can find small pebbles and dirt of choice as their grit.

If not going to be free range then I would opt for grit in a separate dish and even sprinkle it around their run. Grit is basically used to help the hens break down the food better in their crops. It acts like a grinding stone to break down the feed. Have fun with the chicks and they will handle their intake of grit and or oyster shell. Adorable age... :) Steve
