confused about how long to leave light on

I just have to say that I am so happy this site exists and I found it! Between all of the helpful responses to my question and all of the responses I've read to other's questions, I have learned SO MUCH and I feel SO MUCH more confidant about this "chicken thing"!!!
Thank you all so much!

I agree, most discussion boards treat people poorly when they ask questions, especially us noob chicken raisers, without the help and support of this board I would be a lot more worried and less confident as I embark on my chicken experience.

The best way to do this is watch the chicks. If the huddle under the light, they are cold, if they stay away from it they are warm. Adjust accourdingly. If you can't watch their actions, then leave the light on, like at night.

Remember, just because they look fully feathered out, if you pull out their wings, you will see that they don't have all their under fluff so they really aren't as feather as they may seem.

BTW, Red lights are to keep them from picking at each other, it's supposedly keeps canabilism from happening.

Good luck!!
