I have been separating one of my chickens due to egg eating. After she lays her egg, I bring her back outside to free range with the rest of the flock. When I brought her out this morning, I let the chickens out at the same time. I started to feed them and I heard his flapping noise behind me. My best layer, my RIR Alabama was on top of BB (the egg eater) and was holding her neck and flapping! Afterwards BB shook off as if she had been mated! Is this... normal?!

What is going to happen when I introduce my cockeral, Vincent? They're only four weeks old so I don't have to worry... quite yet but still!

It's not unusual for one hen to become the ruler of the flock, and a little breeding action is really more domination than anything else. When your rooster comes of age, they will likely have several fights then he will dominate.

Don't introduce the roo too early, he needs to be up to the challenge when he goes in. I had a RIR hen who kicked 2 roosters butts at once! It was something to see! I finally got them to all accept each other by free ranging daily for 2 weeks.
