I have four hens, and have been getting 3 eggs a day, two brown, & one white. The two birds I know are laying lay a brown & a white egg. The other two are a tiny cochin & a standard silverlaced wydonnette. I'm almost positive the wydonnette (aka Bo) is laying the large, light brown egg (same size as the the standard Black-star egg). However, she's starting to sound like a "he." The past several days, Bo has been coming up to the back door & attempting to crow. For those of you who have roosters, she sounds like a young rooster who is learning to properly crow. She does it a couple of times, always next to the house, and usually around 7 am or so. Since I work all day, I don't know if she does it during the day. Bo is the top hen in the flock, and I have heard her yelling at the other birds that like to sleep late, but this sounds so much like a rooster and is a different call. She'll be 1 year old late May/early June. The roosters that I raised started crowing by the time they were about 2 months old, plus Bo is laying eggs..... Is there some way to convince her that she's a "she" and not a "he"?
