Hi, this is my 1st time with the incubator. I set me eggs 8/21 @ 9pm. I have read you don't count the 1st day and I have read you do. So I think I'm on day 21??? I have no movement, chirping, or anything. Can I get clarification on how to figure the days, thanks :)

Do you have more than one thermometer to ensure an accurate reading? What has the humidity been? Did you increase it to at least 50% on day 18? Did you make sure that they were turned properly and regularly?

I only have 1 thermostat but it sits up above the eggs, my humidity has been around 50 and I increased it to 70 on day 18. (What I think is day 18). And yes I turned them. I tried to candle on the days I had read ur supposed to but my eggs are dark and it's hard to see. When I candle on day 18 before lock down most were all dark except air sac. I couldn't see movement but lime I said thay are dark eggs and I was using a flashlight.

Do you have a still air or forced air incubator? Still air incubators should be run at about 101 to 102 degrees. Forced air should be at about 99.5. Multiple thermometers will show you where possible hot and cool spots are, and help you get a better idea of the average temperature than using only one.

I have a still air. I have been at 101. Do you count the 1st 24 hrs as day 1 or start on the second day? My eggs are right out of the coop. They were not shipped

Sending good hatching vibes your way

You may want to try posting on this forum if you are looking the best way to calculate hatch days or need other information on hatching chicks: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs

Either way, I would not get too worried yet, unless your temp or humidity was off or not accurately calibrated. Give them a few more days and see what happens.

Just a thought - DO you know that they eggs you used were fertile?

If you set on Saturday at noon, Sunday noon would be "1". One 24 hour period. This would make day 21 also a Saturday. Lockdown would be a Wednesday.

Sometimes they hatch early, sometimes late. I wouldn't be too concerned about what day was lock down if you were +/-1. Being off 1 day isn't a huge problem. It isn't an exact science. It's nature. I've moved them out of my turner on day 18 and had pips already and they hatched. Sometimes they go 23 days.

Ok, thank you. I went into day 21 last night at 9pm then. So I won't freak put yet. Just excited for my first hatch.
