I have eggs that are 21 days in incubator.....not hearing anything and read to do water test . 11 sank immediately and website said they would not be alive. So I decided to see what day they roughly died only to pull shell off abit and found a chick still alive. How is this possible or is water testing not reliable?

Did you candle when you decided to try the float test? You could have done then to see whether there was still movement in the egg. If temp is off even half a degree it will delay hatching, and sometimes make hatching more difficult for the chicks.

I did candle had good air space at bottom but hard to tell if moving

These were chicken eggs, correct? Expected to hatch on Day 21, and Day 21 is when you did the float test? Or did I miss the story here?

ETA - just realized I might be sounding mean here, so apologies if so, was just trying to be sure I understood the timeline.
