Hi folks,

I'm Steve. My wife, two daughters (5yrs and 2.5yrs), and I brought home three chicks on Friday. Neither my wife nor I have any previous experience with Chickens.

We have:

  1. a Rhode Island Red (Hazel, named by my wife),
  2. a Buff Orpington (Heart, named by our 5yr old), and
  3. a Barred Rock (Lunch, named by our 2yr old without any understanding of the humor or irony)

Three was the max. we felt we could comfortable fit in our coop (Precision Pet Hen House). I plan to buy or build a shed-style coop over the summer to bring the number up to the 9-12 range. In addition to eggs, we're counting on the ladies to gradually help with the tick population, and most importantly, provide the whole family with a bit of education and entertainment.

This site has been a great resource during our planning and consideration, and I'm looking forward to further engagement now that the flock is actually starting.

Kind regards,

Steve Evermore
