Considering ducks....

I think the keywords here are "spent many many hours with" and "labor intensive". :p Like I said, I'm not saying that runners always have to be skittish, that's just one of the stereotypical characteristics of the breed, is all.

Besides, no matter what type of duck the OP wants to get, it's more important to make sure that they're ready for ducks and will give them a good home with lotsa love, attention and protection!

Yeah <3 They sure are a lot of work, but my life changed for the better when I became a duck owner!
 
So much great info here! Thanks, guys! Our wet area isn't too far from the house - maybe 75 yards down a hill. They'd definitely be socialized and with people more often than not.
 
That's great to know! What about a protective place for them to sleep at night? And have you decided on what breed you wanna get?
