My little buff has had since i got her some vent problem or another. She had pasty butt and I cleaned her and fixed her up. Fed her molasses, oats, yogurt and eventually she pooped out a huge worm. Yuck 4 or more inches long. so dewormed the whole flock and now she is still havig constipation problems. So once a week I take her to the "spa'. and clean up her little butt. Otherwise she eats, drinks plays with the other flock members, just strains to poop.

This isn't normal. Any ideas of how to fix her straining. The poop is dark and gritty and has some white on it, she has a different smell to her poop then the others. sort of hayish. They eat their baby feed and we give them grain and seed scratch, insects, grasses and weeds and yogurt and have tried a boiled egg yoke. But she is bottom of the pecking order and gets only a bit.

Oh and she is the smallest in the flock. Thank you!

i don't know, and i am hoping someone smarter than me knows, but is it possible that she still has worms? i've heard that sometimes, you can worm them but then more hatch or something?

how old is she?

when did you worm? what did you use?

"baby feed"?

try a little squirt of mineral oil or KY jelly at vent..
is it plugged up?

give her some watered molasses and plain yogurt.
put a second feeder and waterer out for her.
give only feed..no scratch or seeds, maybe just a teeny bit of fresh spinach leaves..
do you give them pulled grass and weeds?
bad for crop...
do a good check of her crop and feel for lump or grainy feeling..
I'm thinking the "hay smell" could be from pecking at weeds.

what bedding do you use?

do you give chick/poultry vitamins?

if you don't have any on hand, and can't get some quick..you can give Poly-vi-sol liquid vitamins, Enfamil brand, no iron..give 2 drops on beak once a day for a week..then taper off for another week..
(need to know how old she is)

try mixing some egg in with feed and hold it up to her and see if she will peck..a little chopped tomato might help attract her.

Little buff is 3 months old. We feed her chicken starter food that has all the vitamins in it. I don't have access to what we wormed her with (its at the farm) we put it in the water for the whole flock. The bedding we use is straw, and they are free range during the day, so they have access to all kinds of greenery. I have given her the yolk mashed but being she is the bottom of the pecking order she only got about one bite. She gets all upset if I put her seperate to try to eat yolk. She just steps in it trying to get backc to her sisters.

I am thinking reworming would be good.

I have read that different wormers only work for specific worms. But i think there are a couple that are more comprehensive, so to speak. I would do a search on here and see if you can find the name - or at least read the label really well on what you have. Maybe the wormer didn't really get her well because she has a different kind of worm other than what the medicine treats. Also, since you said she tends to get the leftovers, she might not have gotten enough medicine either.

Those are my thoughts.

Blessings. Let us know.

Hello all, I am hoping that someone from southeast Georgia will read this and help. I have an orphaned baby muscovy duck that I am looking for a home for. It is about 4-5 weeks old now and doing well. I do not have the proper facilities to raise this friendly little duck. I live on the Islands outside of Savannah. Please reply if you can help or if you know of someone that can. Thank you.
