I have a ten-day-old chick and she’s been constipated all day. I’ve gotten her to drink a little bit of water, put a few drops of oil in her beak and one around her vent to lubricate the system, but minimal progress has been made. I gave her a “bath” in warm water, and a little came out at that time. She’s pooped a little bit since then, but still isn’t eating or drinking, and her vent is really swollen :( . I’ve already had a high loss rate in this batch, i don’t want to lose her too.

I had a guinea who was so constipated that her vent was purple. But she grew up to be a healthy bird!
I would bathe your chick in warm water a few times a day to make sure she gets the poop out. Sometimes it will take a few minutes of effort getting it out, patience is needed.
Coconut oil around her vent is great, too.
Have you tried feeding her some chick grit and mixing her feed with water?
Hope she makes it!

No, I haven’t fed any chick grit - I don’t have any, and their brooder bedding is sand from the yard, so they’ve just been eating the sand for grit. i am thinking of mixing the feed with water to make a mash/soup even though i don’t think she’d eat it either way. I really hope this is just a scary hiccup and she’ll be fine, but I know how fast things can go from bad to worse with chicks.
