We have a Rhode Island Red who keeps getting constipated. We feed her Poultry Layer 16% mixed with grit and oyster shell--she has constant access to it and it is always clean and fresh. She has access to clean water 24 hours a day. She's also free range. We give the chickens bananas, corn, melon, yogurt (sometimes). We never give them bread. Is the corn making her constipated? The other hen has never been sick (they both just turned two years). To relieve her of her constipation (the first time) we greased her vent and fed her some yogurt with molasses and the next day she was fine. Now she's backed up again and greasing her vent isn't working. It's been a week now and yesterday she seemed to be getting better, but this morning her comb had fallen over and she is walking funny. When we check the vent she is full to bursting and the vent area feels hot. She is such a sweetheart and we love her so much--it would destroy my kids to lose her. I just feel so bad that she depends on us and clearly we are doing something terribly wrong. What can we do to help her immediately and keep her healthy??? We are so worried! Thank you in advance for any help!!!!!
