After seeing a PVC feeder designed by Mrs. AK-Bird_Brain and her hubby, we decided to try our own. Would love to see other ideas, looks like a second flock is in our future!

We opted for ABS pipe, 4" and came up with this design. The feeder has a screw-on top and can be loaded in the feed room. The lower end exits on the other side of the wall, in the coop. Needs refilling about every week for 12 birds.

Because the feed is there all the time we haven't run into competition for it. We're using layer pellets with grit/oyster shell in the feed. Better for adults, we'd like to add...

Materials

screw top
10' length 4" pipe.cut down
90 deg turnpipe
9' piece of original pipe
60 deg turn pipe
scrap piece of board screwed to wall

no glue, though you could use if desired

clamp strip
screws

No it sits in the 60 deg turn pipe- but the *hens* knock it out!

Now if anyone can stop that, I'm game to upgrade the design.

We constructed this so that if there is a bad snowstorm or unavoidable delay in our getting to the coop, the birds are free-feeding and also have enough water. Holds about 9 days worth of feed, so I'll top it up every Sunday. Keeps pellets fresh, too.

Rather than the upturned fitting at the end, Use this with the holes turned upright, and a cap on the end.
