Hi!

What are your recommendations for handling construction around the coop? We're adding a fence around the coop/garden area and there will be some machinery (one of those hydraulic post drivers/pounders on a bobcat) making quite a bit of noise for the day. I think this will be stressful for the chickens and thought about trying to relocate them for the day to a quieter spot. But not sure if I'm babying them! ;) Would love to get some opinions. Thanks!

Moving them would also be stressful.

Will there be a lot of dust and fumes or might they feel more secure safely shut into their familiar coop?

I don't think there will be dust, possibly some fumes. The continuous pounding sound for an entire day is my biggest concern. I could shut them in their coop, that's a good thought. It's going to be 80 today, so a little toasty, but not unbearable. That's a pretty obvious solution... that hadn't occurred to me, haha. Thank you..!

That would keep them from taking flight in their fright at the unfamiliar noise. Just make sure they've got ventilation and water.

Thanks for putting my nerves at ease! Happy to report that my chickens handled everything just fine today. They were a little upset during the post pounding but after that was over they settled right down. :) Not quite finished but the fence is looking great!

It's pretty amazing what they'll put up with.
Nice fence!
You don't expect them to stay inside there?

Thanks! Haha, nahh. I know one of them in particular will be jumping/flying over that fence in no time. We're putting a garden in at one end, so it's more to keep deer out and just add another hassle to any predator trying coming in! They have a 15' long covered run that they're in but they get to free range when we're outside/home.
