Construction Question

TWO FEET of black topsoil!!! We are lucky to find two inches before we hit gravel up here. I would think that a local trucking/excavating company might trade you topsoil for gravel.....
Call your township office and ask for the building inspector. Tell him that you are "thinking" of building and let him tell you what you need. Then find your local handyman/contractor and ask him.
While you may not be building within sight of the road, around here a few of the pilots in the flying club seem to be friends with the township staff.....

Ditto the above re:engineers. I know it sounds expensive, but its a lot cheaper than buiding a barn, watching it fall over, cleaning it up, and building another barn to replace it. And you may be surprised that it is cheaper than you think to hire the right people.

Do go to your town's engineering department and ask to talk to a planner as well as an engineer before you begin too much stuff. You may be surprised by some of the suggestions you get, adn some of your site requirements.
