Hello All ,
I am new to the concept of BYC

I have several friends who have a small flock and I do like the eggs they share. My family has decided that we might want to get our own little flock. My question is, what is the one thing you wish you knew before you got started with chickens?
Thanks,
Chris

My chickens are still in their eggs... and I still wish I knew a bottom line cost to raise chickens.

After reading BYC, I have come to the conclusion that no one here knows that either...

Be sure you have a clean, dry and secure henhouse before you get the chicks. Beyond that, I found that as I needed to know something, it came to me. This forum is a great place for that to happen.

If I'd known how easy and enjoyable chickens were, I'd have done it a long time ago. With BYC right here, any questions you have will answered by some of the most experienced and progressive chicken people on earth, so you have nothing to fear. Take your time and build your coop right the first time, make it bigger then you think you need. The only regret you might have is "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

Guess I wish I had known how much I would enjoy them and how I would want to have several of many different breeds.....I would have put my coop closer to the house and made it MUCH larger. Now I am making more pens and coops, for the breeds I am incubating.

Welcome to BYC. and If your wondering how it's going to be get one of the books I recomend Raising chickens by Gail Damerow, it has most of things your going to need to know.
