We found peep [in shell] kicked outside the nest, the day it was due to hatch. The egg was cold to the touch. We decided to open it to see how developed it was. I peeled off the shell and the chick was unmoving and appeared dead. When we put the chick on the ground it started to move and bleed. As new chicken owners, we did everything wrong, including running warm water over it to try to warm it and gently rubbing to get circulation going. We dried it off and put it under a heat lamp. There was a very weak peep every now and then. The top photo is what we saw the next morning! Peep was eating and drinking, tired but alive and within a day or two running with the others. This chick is a brahma-orpington.
