I'm having a hard time controlling the temperature and humidity in my styrofoam incubator. It's a 13.5inch by 10 inch styrofoam container. I'm using a 25 watt bulb and a bowl of ice water. I've poked several dime size holes and my temperature still wants to soar through the roof (last i checked it was 111*F) and my humidity pretty much stays around 27%. Can anyone offer me any tips on how to fix this or make a better one?

First, drop down to a 15 watt bulb. Yes, they sell them. Second, install a thermostat. These little devices click the current on/off to keep the temp with a two degree range. It is almost impossible to keep the temperature steady without a thermostat.

Finally, install a computer fan and run with it with an old cell phone charger. This will mix the air and keep things more even.

On YouTube, there are a host of really good How To's on building an incubator using a computer fan, a light socket, and a thermostat to control it. Most folks also install a piece of glass for viewing.

There are also a good number of threads here on the subject. Best of luck in your project. I've built a good number of them and each of them are just a bit different.

Another great website with all the How To's and the equipment needed to build incubators from small to great is Incubator Warehouse. Great site.
