Target training is a basic training tool. Essentially you are training the bird to respond to and follow/touch a target. Once they learn this, teaching them any other behavior is much easier, because you now have a way to reliably direct the bird and teach it what you are looking for it to do!

If you don't have a clicker, you can use one of those metal bottle lids that 'pop', or even snapping your fingers or using your mouth if you want. Just make sure the noise is immediate, and different from other noises that you use around the bird.
If you get Sonny trained with a target, you can have other people use it to build trust with him like the fellow in the video. It can take time!! But it does work.
