I think you were very wise to build that coop wall 3' inside the shed like that. Not only extra safety for your comings and goings without the hens getting out, but dry space for all your feed and litter storage. Well done!
I found some hinge joints today at Home Depot....They were only $3.00. I think they will work fine unless the window is big and heavy...They were in the same isle as the brackets and door pulls....
Thanks for sharing those pics! I have just bought a 8x12 shed, and I had it moved to my backyard, so I'm trying to figure out how I'll set up the inside.....your pics really helped me! And your chicks are adoreable.
Great coop.
I am about to start turning my old shed into a coop as well. I too was going to add the storage "hallway" in the entrance but I never thought to make one of the walls the nesting boxes!! I may just have to copy that.
Great retro-fit! I really love how deep your nest boxes are...they won't be shoving shavings out of there! My only suggestion is to maybe move the roosts away from the wall a bit. Our roosts are 12" and 26" away from the wall...that loose poo will still squirt all over:/ I would suggest at least 12-14" away.
Hi. I know this is an old thread... but we have a shed exactly like this that we are turning into a coop. Do you have pictures of what you did for ventilation? Any updates on how this is working out for you?? thanks
I know you posted this a couple years ago, but this is wonderful! i showed my Hubby what you did with a wall and building the nesting boxes into it and he said he could do that! im am so excited! this was a great retrofit! i have a question though, what did you do for lighting and ventilation? we are goint to cut 2ft x 4ft openings on each wall and make them windows and cover them with plexi glass in the winter but still allow light through. and two of those spinny ones in the roof for extra ventilation.
I have an 8'x10' shed I just erected and am looking at ideas on how to enhance it for my turkeys. The original poster really did a fine job and I too am very interested in seeing what further modifications were made.
Here's where I am currently with mine as of March 12, 2014:
