converting a tree house into a chicken coop...

I think I'll put the food and water below for now... may be a while before I can get the human door built (I'm doing this with NO help and have NO carpentry skills

) but I LOVE that idea and will definately get one made. And from the ground to the floor it's about 5'. I'll take the camera down today to get some close-up pics. Gotta take mom to the doctor this afternoon, so more pics this evening! I'm hoping to get some heavy cleaning done to the inside.
aaronzclark: I've got some "galvanized metal cloth" to put around the bottom, and don't worry, I'm hoping to make it like fort knox!
ducks4you: Yes, it's very sturdy! The 4"x4" posts are burried 3' and in concrete, so no moving it once it's done! For the most part, they'll be free-range during the day while I'm home. I'm hoping to get my boy 2 BO hens soon!
Thanks again to all for your suggestions/encoutagement! I'll keep ya updated!

Yeah you're going to have to get some easy human access up there - otherwise cleaning the coop or catching one of them when they aren't well to treat them would be a real pain - the side access people door with stairs is probably a good way to go - I wouldn't want to be climbing up the ladder that the chickens use as well because inevitably it will be covered with poop. It's like making the bed up on bunk beds - really difficult if access is only via a ladder on the side.

It has a lot of promise by the way!

My chickens totally love having their coop on the second floor of my barn. They will LOVE being able to roost up high. A tree house is a nice conversion!

This is my old ladder system.

Currently, I am carrying them up and down. I need to build a new ladder. We are going to make it against the side of the building, like a "z"

Vermontgal, that is so awesome! I

it!
Sorry y'all that I didn't get more pics today, I had to take mom to the doctor and she ended up getting admitted to the hospital... AGAIN!

But it's where she needs to be right now.... Anyhow, I really didn't get a whole lot done other than getting the old straw burnt and the other stuff that I drug out to the junk heap. Tomorrow I am going to try to get some MAJOR cleaning done up there and unless something catastrophic happens, I promise some close up pictures! I'll keep ya posted!

Gives a whole new meaning to 'Living the high life'... that pic is just super! I must admit though, the one with the chicken heading down gives me vertigo...just look how high it is!
