Hi, brand new here! We have a 12x6' playhouse with a loft that we want to convert to a chicken coop. I plan on cutting out the plywood floor so we have dirt, put in some hatches to collect eggs from the loft area, and build an outdoor run. There is ventilation by the roof. All the web sites I look at just want to sell me a coop, but I need to know what basic disgn features will be necessary for happy hens. Thanks for any advice, we are total chicken newbies!

You have to have roosting poles, nest boxes. Under the roosting pole, you want something that makes it easy to clean. Hooks for hanging the feeder and waterer. You may have enough room to make a separate area to keep feed, wood shavings, etc. I'm sure more experienced folks will have many more ideas for you.

By the way - if it were me, I'd keep the plywood floor - maybe put down some linoleum to make it wasy to clean.
