Convincing mom to get chickens...Need your help!

I found that it is interesting to just sit down and watch chickens do their thing, like one would watch fish. I love to observe their individual personalities, how they interact with each other, what food they do and not do not like, interesting habits such as constantly looking at feet, the different sounds they make for different situations, their daytime routine and so much more. Chickens are more complex than one would think, they each have their own little personalities and habits just like us humans. It is so entertaining and relaxing to watch them. Even my mom, who is not so hands on with them, will watch them from her window in the morning. It is like having a TV show in the backyard

. I also love it how they follow me around the yard because they think I have food. It is rather cute

And not only that, but the chickens can be cute themselves, and if raised with care, perfect lap chickens, very similar to lap dogs, only less annoying. Oh I almost forgot the mommy chickens! It is sooo cute to watch a mommy take care of her chickies and feed them and keep them warm. And if you have a wonderful roster he will take care of all his hens, feeding them breaking up fights giving cuddles and sometimes helping care for the babies. Chickens are oh so interesting to watch. There is something more to them than just their eggs.

She should love the fresh eggs they will give her, and get rid of all the annoying bugs.

next time you are over there, sit down with the Internet and show her pictures of lots and lots of chickens. She my oooh and ahh over a silver laced wyandotte or she may fall for the looks of a frizzled showgirl. Who knows, but there are so many "flavors" of chickens, there is sure to be one that intrigues or interests her.

Don't forget to show her blue, olive, pink, eggs, an egg color may interest her. Also, start small, tell her a flock of 4-5 hens will give her plenty of eggs for personal egg use, it won't kill the pocketbook in feed, and they only need a small corner in the yard.

Have fun, I hope she falls in love like we all have

If you can't talk her in to chickens, maybe you can tak her in to getting ducks

Mine are a total riot.

If your Mom likes dogs, remind her how friendly chickens can be, how they can easily be trained to come when called and how they can eat table scraps. Your mom will probably be tickled when the hens come clucking up to the fence, beseeching her for a treat ... much like a labrador.
