Both my banties and my standards make little cooing and "purring" noises when they are sleepy or content. I don't know if it is both male and female - I do know all my young female standards do this, so when I hear it in the banty brooder, I'd guess it was one of the female banties. If the male banty chicks are cooing or purring, I can't tell, although they well could be, too! The banties are all still so small at 5 weeks, sometimes its like a ventriliquist act trying to figure out which one is making noise!

I think the purring sound seems to be calling others to it to nap together, because when one of the standards makes the sound, a few will come over and quite often lay down with her.

I hear that alot when it is bedtime just after everyone gets settled in for the night. Mine are all Large fowl, and all kinds of different breeds. I like to think there just talking and reflecting on theres days events with there coop mates. LOL

I think they are calling others too when my chickens started i tried to make the noise and they came over and went to bed beside me!

my banties do this at night too. I love it..... so sweet I could listen to it all night. They sound so content and happy

i've been keeping my 1st banty polish in the house since he hatched 3 months ago and he makes the cooing when he's settled in for the night. i thought it was the equivelent to snooring but he tends to do it during the day when he's content with just sitting with me.

they are banty chicks .. i will add some pics of them tomorrow .. i do need help figuring out if they are boys or girls.... if only you could tell by their ummm ... down there parts.... that would make it so much easier
