Okay, in my scrap pile I had cooked rice and beans. Well I free ranged my hens and rooster tonight and they went right to the scrap pile and devoured the cooked rice and the baked beans.

The rice had sugar on it.. but.. these foods wont hurt my chickadees will they?

They'll be fine. Mine loves beans and rice and the sugar is fine.
Just don't let them sleep with you tonight. They might be stinky.

Haha!! Thanks Purple Chicken. I am so releived. I do have a question, or anotherone rather.. They found a frog and were chasing it around pecking at it.. is this normal? and Is it good for them also?

Dave-
Not to worry!

Chickens are omnivores...and they take that title very seriously. They will eat anything they can catch- including frogs, salamanders, bugs, worms, etc....and let us not forget they even eat mice. They are also often called rototillers and garbage disposals!!!!

My chickens get ALL the leftovers in our family. The only thing I really watch for is salt content. That seems to be one thing they don't watch out for themselves. So I don't give them all the chips that have gone stale....or I limit how much bacon they get etc.

Free range chickens are great in the fact that they do end up self regulating. You'll find that they'll go nuts for one thing, but if you have too much they go on to eat something else...like some dandelions or bugs! They might return to finish their treats...or not.

Enjoy your chickens!!!!!!

My hens go NUTS when they catch a toad. They fight over it and chase
each other like mad. I feel bad for the toad but it's natural food for chickens.

So far your babies sound pretty normal.
