coop acclimation

I have a semi wild hen (she does not roost in the coop but in a tree). She hatched a bunch of eggs and now has abandon the chicks, my ? is how long must I lock them (chicks-poults) in the coop until they will stay (go back at night)?

I've read that it takes a week or so. Mine were in the coop for about a week while i finished their run. The first couple of nights i had to put them in thru the poop door but by the 3rd night the rooster just showed them the way. Now they are all inside about 20 minutes before dark.
