I just completed a major run rebuild this summer, and now have doors with common exterior doorknobs on the run doors. They are keyed, but I haven't actually been locking them at night. Anyone with experience with critters opening the doors? My dogs learned to open doors like this, so I wonder if raccoons, etc, also have this ability? Maybe I should lock those doors? Mary

Door handles or knobs? I dont see a coon opening a knob, even with thumbs. Its possible but unlikely.

This thread reminds me of the scene in Jurassic Park when the raptors enter the kitchen.

Your dogs can open a door knobs on those doors?!?!

I have cats that open doors with knobs. One learns & the rest watch & then they can all do it.

If they can keep wiggling it, it will eventually turn it enough to get it open. Doesn't have to be turned all the way.

Coons are smart. If they can get into people's houses your knobs will probably not work forever.

Coons opening doors is actually quite common, far from unlikely more like very likely... They can also undo many types of latches...

I had a pet one as a child, never underestimate their abilities...

That's what I suspected; guess I'll start locking the doors at night. Phoey! Yes, my very missed late GSHP, and his buddy my Ches. Bay Ret, both learned to open doorknobs, and levered latches. They never closed the doors, either. My two current pit bull terriers open the levered French doors, also never closing them.

It's really not helpful. Mary
