Coop and run on north side of barn

Our chickens will be arriving the first week of March which means I have about 8-10 weeks from today to plan and implement our coop and chicken run.

The current plan is to convert a stall in the horse barn for the coop. Unfortunately, the stall that we want to use is on the north side of the barn (the aisle runs E-W). This means the pop door for the chickens would be in the north wall of the building and their run would be constructed to the north of the barn.

Is this a recipe for problems having the chickens on the not-so-sunny north side in the winter? Even in the summer, that side of the barn is well shaded by trees.

Our coop and run are on the south side of our barn (not attached) and in Ohio it works perfect for wind/snow protection in the winter. During the winter we still have the first 8' of the run's north side covered with clear vinyl. It makes the run more usable during the cold months. You could wrap the "weather' sides of the run during winter.
