I'm curious to know what type/brand of wood finish you have found to be successful or not over time? My run in particular is made of pine and pressure treated so I'm looking for an opaque finish to cover the branding and other markings on the wood. As much as I like the look of a tidy white run I don't like the look of white chipping paint so I think I'm going with a darker color.

Any suggestions for wood coating that has stood the test of time?

Pressure treated wood must be dry before you can paint or stain. To test, sprinkle some water on it and if it beads then it’s not ready to paint. For paint, when it’s dry, use a primer and two coats of exterior paint. My coop is 6 years old and the painted areas still look fine, but just like a house, paint won’t last forever. I don’t have any experience with stain, but I think it lasts much longer. It also fades rather than chips.

We used grey solid stain. Stain doesn't peel like paint & you can get solid colors that look just like paint. Much easier when you have to redo, no scraping etc. Mine has been re-stained once in 26 years & needs it again this year. We built the coop with T-111 siding.
