Coop and run SQ Feet Per chicken

Hum? That's x*y (footprint) except when provided with vertical roost they don't use much in the way of extra height- you want enough height for perching and enough height for roosters to duel if you are keeping roosters. (mine could jump straight up over 2.5 feet give or take so I would never keep them less then 3 feet height- for cleaning purposes I prefer human height).

REVIVING!

How many chickens can I have in a 48sq feet coop-AT NIGHT ONLY! They have a HUGE run and even get to free range! I have Red Sex Links, Bantams, A Bramha full grown chickens

I have as chicks, that are not in the coop (and we won't be keeping all them as the roosters....)

~6 Cornish Cross (Only for a limited time ;)
~1 bantam
~1 Buff Orp ( I hope)
~5 ducks (probably not keeping them all, only need one drake)
~5-7 Gold Comets (I can't count them!!!!)
~4 Australorps (Black N White)

I feel like I'm forgetting something-but you get the picture! :)

Thanks in Advance!

48/4= 12 chickens in a 48 sq ft coop. Unless you're up at the crack of dawn to let them out, or leave the pop door up all the time, they will do more than just sleep in the coop

12 in the coop. If you build a run, it should probably be at lease 120 sq ft.

I designed my coop in mind to add two more. So i made a double run 32x24ft (both are 12x16ft that divides down center of the outside coop).

The reasoning is when one coop is free range, the other two will be in a run. And i will alternate runs. So each run will have a two day resting period. Or, in unforseen future mishaps...there will be at least one day of rest for the run.

One coop will hold egg layers with no rooster.
Another for meat birds, with a rooster or two.
Third coop for random "rare" breeds...maybe.

Anyhow...im in alabama, and we actually had a real winter this past season.

So...an idea for your weather issue...
When late fall comes im going to add some chickens for the whole body heat ordeal. Im not sure how many though. Im sure the walk in height of coop contributes to body heat factor.
My coop measures 8x8x8 from outside corners and will be closed in (other than for ventilation). I have a open wired floor, that gets boarded in winter to help keep the cold drafts out.
