I’m considering switching from large flake pine shavings to course concrete sand for bedding in the coop, both floor and poop board. The pine shavings we’ve been using for years seem to be getting more and more dusty, with less pine shavings and more debris per bag.

What has the experience been like with course sand for those in similar climate?

I'm in Southern Colorado. We use PDX on the poop boards. We make our own chips from our pine tree cuts. The chips are used in the coop. When I clean out the coop, I just sweep all the chips into the run. We do have a covered run and most of it is just the ground dirt (ie nothing special)

I am new to all this, but a friend recommended "all purpose sand". I clean out the coop like youd clean a cat box. Oh, and I also live in southern Colorado, the dry air seems to lend itself well to the sand
