I was planning on using sand for bedding after watching so many videos show it as being so easy but the struggle to find the right sand made me decide to go for straw. I was recommended rice straw I think it's called. Anyway my question is should I put it on the table under the roosts or also on the floor going into the coop. They have a large run about 20×20. The entrance has a roof over it and a "sidewalk" I need to widen it but mostly they should be walking across brick prior to entering the coop after playing in the dirt/grass/weeds all day. I was leaning towards the floor as well but started second guessing.

We enjoy Sweet PDZ. It's scoopable like sand, but I think it does a great job of reducing ammonia. We scoop it every morning, and it looks great weeks later. We only add when it's getting low. We have it on our poop board and our floors (vinyl roll like yours)

How thick of a layer do you put down?
