This is my first project and I feel very proud of it! I’m only starting with two chickens, with the thought that I might eventually move to 6. 🫣 (working in enclosing the run next)

I wanted to show it off, and also ask if my birds are going to poop on each other/I should arrange the roosts differently? The lower roost is 19” off the floor.

Thanks!

It looks nice!

With that corner roost they will poop all over the wall and maybe on the other roost. It may or may not be a problem.

What is your general location and climate? The ventilation is in a good location but may not be enough, especially for six chickens.

The hardware cloth is about 4” tall, all around the top of the coop. I’m in the PNW- summer highs of 90, but only for a few weeks, winter overnight lows in the mid 30s-40s. rains a ton in the winter. What do you think?

I think I’ll just remove the corner roost… I just had an extra piece and figured I’d use it.

Posted a picture of the other wall, also 4” of hardware cloth under the roof. Still need more? 😭

Would you suggest adding it on the opposite side of the entry door? And how high up?

How long is the longer roost bar? One linear foot per (eventual 😉) chicken is often recommended, although many will snuggle up more tightly. On the other hand, some cranky ones can demand more room.

It’s a little over 4’ long, so I should be good for now! When I add a second… should I stagger it or put it parallel in height with the other bar? Should I move this bar higher? The coop height is 4’ from floor to ceiling

You might consider laying it at a right angle to the first one, making an L, at the same height. I don’t know how long your coop is, which is relevant to having them face one another. It’s good to have “fly-down” space in front of the roost bar(s), although if they’re not high off the coop floor, it’s less of an issue.
