Coop built onto existing structure:

Painted the interior yesterday.
It was a whim, but I like how bright it looks.
Today I am working on a droppings box and roost.

It is move in day!
I finished building the box and roosts today.
I think that my favorite thing is the curved cedar branches that I used for door handles.

The roost is only 3ft, but it turns out that I have two roosters, so I am going to only have two or three hens this year.

Door handle is great.......that latch is not, especially that way you have the release wire running. I hope you have another way to get out.

It works well. Ive tested it about 30 times and I have a carribeaner to lock the door. =) worst case, I'm never home alone and I can shout for help lol

I'd drill a small hole directly above your latch for the release wire. That way it's easier to pull it up. just a thought. knowing my luck, I'd wander out there for a peek and lock myself in LOL

The roof support post and frame are 6" thick, which is why I didn't drill through them

If you have any suggestions, I'm game

Not using a self locking latch, and use a screen door spring for auto closing the door.

I've used these before, they can get misalinged and/or the wire breaks,
luckily it is in a place where I can reach around to unlock.
Have read more than a few stories of this same failure.
