Working on our first coop. DH is doing a pretty good job. But, he is stuck on how to frame out the chicken door. I figure we will get a timer/automatic door at some point, but manual for now. Does it need to go up or can it open like a door? I think I would prefer it to go up and down, but DH needs some sort of instructions or diagram. Any place to find that? Thank you!

If you plan to out a timer later. A up and down door will be best. And it will keep you out of the run. You can run rope up and out the side of the coop. For easy up and down open and close. Simple take two 2"X2" 2' long cut 1/2" slot on one corner down 2'. Cut your coop door out of 1/4" wood "plywood". Nail each 2"X2" where coop door can move easily within each slot.
