I have a 12' X 8' coop divided into 2/3 and 1/3 separated with chicken wire. I have six six week old babies that have been in my cellar and it's time to move 'em on out. My 14 week pullets have been in the 1/3 ever since I got them at a week old so integrating them with the adults has actually been relatively painless (not completely!) so now I want to clean the 1/3 of the coop and move the babies out. my question is this: how clean do I have to get the 1/3 of the coop? do I need to disinfect? do I need to clean out the entire coop? Or can I just clean out the 1/3 and wash the floor and put down new bedding? (I'm using hay) Everyone is very healthy and I don't let the coop get too poopy anyway.

I just cleaned all the old stuff out and put new bedding down and mine are all healthy as can be. I didn't wash it or anything. i guess some soap and water couln't hurt tho. good luck.

thanks, that's basically what I did but I washed the floor (it's vinyl) and the babies seem to be settling in just fine. the six babies are 2 astrolorps, 2 plymouth rocks, and 2 silver laced whyndottes. They are all so beyoootiful!
