I'm building what I've code named "Coop Control" to monitor my coop. The circuit currently contains the following sensors but I'm curious from the people who have owned a coop for a while what things they would also find useful if it was possible.

Current design
  • Temperature
    • indoor
    • run
    • outside
    • water tank
    • water near nipples
  • Humidity
    • indoor
    • outside
    • food?
  • Light level
    • outside
  • Water level
  • Food level

Future (if need be)
  • Raise sensor to lower windows
  • Relays for lights on/off
  • Relays for fans for summer circulation
  • Prop door but my run will be predator proof so I doubt I'll need it
  • Noise detection
  • Human Door/nesting box lock
  • Nesting box motion detection

You are defiantly going ALL OUT 22 nd CENTURY style. All I have is a outdoor thermometer sending unit in mine. I can tell the temp. from my comfort on the couch.. Temp in chicken area is not same as outdoors. Chickens do receive heat. I was thinking about installing an Audio-video setup, so I would be able to monitor if there was distress..... Then I thought Hmmmmmm.. """"" monitor ????"""""" and I let that idea vanish.

BUT I DO THINK WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS NEAT.!!!

Already have a temp and humidity sensor....would love a infared camera with audio, pan, zoom, tilt all operable from my laptop....but no bucks for that.

Feed, water eggs need to be monitored in person everyday anyway so I don't see the need for monitoring that.

Noise level (max during egg song and average during none egg laying period)
Air Quality (dust level)
Notification when there are eggs in the nest box
Coop light timer
Automatic coop door & timer
Water temperature (when frozen, send a signal)
Option for solar power the sensors
Intrusion detection
Fire/smoke alarm
Android App connect to cell phone

My kids promised they will build one for me but never did, so when you are done with this Coop Control module, I would love to test it out.
