Hi all, I am new here but have been reading for months. This morning my Amish Quaker coop (from hayneedle) was scheduled for delivery, the truck showed up during torrential rain. I wonder to myself how it can possibly run smoothly in this weather, but I let the delivery man go ahead. 5 minutes later, the pallet (which was at least 2 feet too large to fit on the back platform) the 850lb freight crashes from 4 ft in the air onto the ground. Paint, wood, roofing is everywhere. The guy shows me the broken windows and assures me that this is all that is broken, and I should accept the delivery. After calling hayneedle, I find out that it'll be another 3 weeks before i can get another delivery from the same shipping service. So i didn't replace the order yet.

my question to everyone, is there any place where I can get a coop online or on Long Island before 3 weeks, I have 7 week old chickens in my garage and its getting too tight (and smelly) in there. So I need a coop asap, any suggestions are soooooooo appreciated! Thanks and I love this forum!

I wouldn't accept that delivery. You can simply rig up a temporary coop just a dog house with a fence around it would suffice for now

Hi Dave,

There is an awesome place on Middle Country Rd in Ridge called Kaufold's Country Sheds. 631-924-1265. I went there a few weeks ago after Riverhead Agway ( too expensive and their delivery is a 15 foot box truck. No way to get that where I wanted it in the backyard ). Kaufolds had a little shed structure, about 5x5x5 high that was $695. They had larger ones for $895. All you'd have to add is a pop door, roost, and a window. I think it is intended to house garbage cans....not sure. It was awesome though. When I asked about a delivery fee, he said it was free, but my boyfriend lives about 15 minutes east of there ( he didn't ask where I wanted the delivery though ). And they will place it where you want it --- they use an 8x10 trailer.

He had a bunch of different coops in stock also. Beautiful coops. I ended up making my own 4x8 coop, sloped roof, three windows, etc. Took longer than I anticipated ( worked on it before/after work and weekends ).

If you want something cheap and simple, that will have to be modified a lot for 6 chickens, try Shirley Feed, on Montauk Hwy in Shirley ( east of William Floyd ). That's where I got my "starter" coop for 6 chicks. Believe me, you will need to expand it. But if you love to play around, building your own is the way to go!!! ( I just made a big screen door for my girls...can't help myself )

Good luck!!
