I am in the planning stages for our future chicken coop. Our new house is in a very windy area....lots of farmland around with very little windbreak. We loved almost everything about our last coop/covered run and will repeating as many elements as possible this time around. But I'm wondering what I will need to do differently to keep my chickens comfortable in the wind. What is the best design for windows/ventilation in areas with a lot of wind? We plan to build on deck blocks with shed anchors for extra security. Is that unwise for an area like this? We cannot do concrete slab which is what we had with our last coop. The coop will be approx. 10x12 gambrel style walk-in.

Thanks for that link! I love the look of that coop. I'm working my way through the thread and I downloaded the related book. I'm a little hesitant to deviate from the gambrel style because we really need the storage that will be provided in the "attic" portion, but I'm definitely interested in the benefits of the open air style for our wind issues.

You could maybe have storage above the perches on the back wall, as well as a row of cupboards on the south wall above the screen.

Dunno, depends on how much and what you want to store.
