coop design

Yeah - My coop is around 20X8 - I just added a heat lamp as temps dropped below zero and I don't have many feathered girls in there.....

I like to be able to stand up when I go into the coop. Also I have mine covered and have small wire and tin going part way up the side and along the ground. We have predators that just wait for a chance to get in. We used plactic fencing across the tops and used young saplings to support it. They work great because you can cut them longer than 2x4s. We like tulip poplar best, long, straight with few low limbs, but mimosa is good too.

I Do have pictures but i have to go home first and when i skate i skate on ice rinks indoors. thank you for the suggestion and I was also wondering if I would have to repaint the shed because is very old and i was worried if it was lead paint?

YIPEEE - post them pic's

oooh, lead paint...... I would definitely try to cover it up. Our hens peck EVERYTHING!!!!!! For some reason they seem especially fond of paint chips. Their outside run has one wall that is the garage exterior and they were literally eating the painted wooden clapboards, I had to buy a piece of thin aluminum (sold as roof flashing) and nail it to the bottom couple feet of the garage outside wall, to keep them from eating the paint. Inside, if you scrape off the peeling paint and prime it with a good quality primer, you could probably get away with just repainting with latex. Or maybe buy or salvage some el-cheapo thin paneling or luan plywood to cover the old painted walls?

Good luck and have fun!
