Coop details.....

I am going to start building or accommodating - a shipping crate into a coop. I have investigated plans so I have my basic idea but have a couple questions. I have seen coops where wire mesh is over the inside "eves", what does this do? Also, for the base, some designs have cinder blocks, sunken, @16" or so. Is that enough to keep varmets from digging under, (with a wood floor, possibly linoleum on that), or should there be hardware cloth under that?

Hardware cloth (the wire mesh you likely saw)is used to cover all openings to prevent predator entry. Predators can, and will, enter through any opening they can find, even at the eaves
