So we Black and copper Marans and Plymouth rocks. And I have a 3year old and one year old. 😂

I see the recommended coop door size is 10x10. How small can I go so that my kids won’t be able to climb in and out? Current door is 10x16

I don't think your little ones can get thru that pop door you have. Your 3 year old is too big, and your 1 year old should not be crawling around in run area unsupervised any ways.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

The chickens are free, we don’t have a run because we have the space. And yes....my 3 year old can get through the sizes i mentioned. I watched him do it

I guess that’s what happens with free-range kids! :lau

at a certain point, the door could get too small for the birds. We have some very large breeds, so our pop door is bigger -an adult can probably get in, but we don’t have little kids.

I’d mock up some door sizes with cardboard and put some scratch or a treat on the other side. See how small can they go and still get through easily.

I would just teach the kids not to go in rather than making a small door. We have a full sized door and not one of my 6 children have ever gone in without permission.
Yes definitely working on that. Learning respect and responsibility. They both got in trouble yesterday for dumping out the water 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

As a mother of four, I agree on training the kids.

It's easier said than done, of course, but kids need to learn to stay out of places they're not supposed to be and to obey commands from their parents for their overall safety and well-being.
100%
My kids may be “free range” too but it’s not without boundaries and correction.
