OK, so coop is nearly finished. Few final details and ready for the hens. Quick question: planning on putting some RIR's or other good layers into the coop. Exit from coop to the run will be through the floor. What size opening do I cut into the floor so that they can enter/exit comfortably?

Thanks in advance.

Well, a 'normal' pophole is 12" x 15", so based on that and as you're going through the floor I would make it 12" x 28" (approx.). Remember, you can always "lengthen" the opening in case they can't get their bodies up through it, but you can't shorten it!

Wife just returned from local flea market with 5 bantams instead of RIR. Guess I'll start small and enlarge as needed.
