coop door

Where did you buy the Chicken Guard? I was searching & all I could find was the Brinsea powered by Chicken Guard which came out in March 2015, so I figured they sold out to Brinsea. I am expecting my Auto Chicken door advanced from Fleming Outdoors on Monday. The light sensor on the Chicken Guard would be of no benefit to me, as I'm mounting it inside above the door. I was also leery of the battery only in the winter. My opener from Petautodoors.com (sold by Fleming) is electric powered with a battery backup. It has a timer built in & the advanced model has a built in function that you put your Latitude & Longitude in & then open & close the door at sunset/sunrise or program to open before or after based on the sunrise/sunset times etc. No changing the timer throughout the year. This opener only has a 1 year warranty & the Brinsea has a two. I can't wait to try it. I have had chickens for 22 years & always wanted one, but now we are going away for weekends a lot more & I finally decide to get it. Will let everyone know how it works out.

Edited to add that this one is made in Lancaster PA, so I am buying local!

I bought mine from their website
www.chickenguard.com
I will change the batteries spring and Fall. We don't have really cold winter here "just rain" yeah I would like to know what your opener use in their opener as in string or wire to Raise the door.

I will let you know what the "string" is when I receive it! Is the Chicken Guard really string or is it like fishing line? Can't wait to receive mine tomorrow. The Chicken Guard looks like a great option. Hope mine is a good one also.

Yeah the chicken guard is a cotton string. So I am hoping I can buy a spare spool. I am waiting for a reply from the company.

Received my door opener yesterday & the string is a nylon cord like on blinds or pleated shades. Man the thing is simple looking! Haven't installed it yet. No screw hole flanges to attach it to the wall like I expected. I guess the holes on the back are there to hang it over screws, but they look pretty small! Hope to get it put in today. Not feeling confident that $200 was a good idea! Hope I like it as well as the one you have. I've waited 22 years to do this, so it better be worth it!

yes I know what you mean It was hard to swallow paying that $200 bucks but man I am so glad I did now. I think you will be really happy you spent the money. Thanks for letting me know about the cord.

I used my own screws to go through the back part and screw to the wall. You need a narrow screw driver to get it through there though. Then I used their screws to attach the front part to the box.

Emailed the company about the red plug that detachable from the back of the face. I could not get mine off so I asked them if it comes off cause it looked to me it was delicate wires. But they assured me that they were tuff and it is made to come off.JUST MAKE SURE IT GETS PUT BACK ON THE SAME WAY NOTE WHICH SIDE THE BLACK AND RED WIRES ARE ON

Installed my advanced chicken door opener this morning. All the setup was easy, including setting it to open & close 1/2 hour after sunrise & sunset according to my latitude & longitude. The installation for me (not very handy) was the pits. This motor has a hinged door instead of the removable one that the Chicken Guard has & I could only attach the top & bottom screws easily on the left hand side. On the right where the door is hinged I could not get the top one in because of the wires that are attached to the door. I'm thinking they should come off like mentioned above, but will check with the company. The bottom screw went in crooked, because it's hard to access as the motor housing & the door get in the way. It seems secure, but I am going to work on it. I contacted the company & they assured me they have already changed their box design to make it easier, so hopefully anyone buying one in the future won't have this problem! The two things I like best about this unit are the fact that it is plug in, but has 4 AA batteries as a backup & the lat/long function that means I never have to change the times. I can't wait to see if it closes at 8:59 tonight! This model costs $200 and has the automatic function & the straight timer function. Their basic model is $180 & just has timer. No light sensor on either. We'll see how it goes.
