I was thinking of hanging a small towel or cloth over the coop door to help with drafts. has anyone done this and will the hens have a problem coming in and out.

lots of people do it, yes. You will have to see what your chickens do; they may need you to pin a corner of it (or even most of it) up for a little while til they get used to the concept, then let the corner down gradually til they learn to push thru.

Have fun,

Pat

I'm in AZ so I don't have to worry about drafts... if its cold in the winter... I'll just shut them in... or just make certain that the windows are closed.

I had a screen on my south window and a stupid rat ate a couple of holes in it. I wondered why the feed seemed to be disappearing quicker than normal. We set rat poison in the trees to the south of the coop. (The poison is in special tubes with rat sized wholes so that the birds in the neighborhood don't die). We've seen a few dead rats in the past week... I wait a couple or more weeks and then I'll replace the screen.
