We bought a wooden coop last year and its been useless.
The nails have been like small pins and the house is falling apart even though we keep mending it.
Also quite difficult to get into it to keep it clean.
I am thinking of investing in another one and would appreciate any thoughts of the type we should buy.
I dont want to spend too much money on it no more than £100-£150
Any thoughts gratefully received.

Is ay just build one.. Chickens dont require many bells and whistles.. Just a simple place with a roost and some nest boxes.. Keep it dry and well ventilated and they will do fine

I 2nd that, build one that suites your requirements.

Oh I forgot

If you can repair/reassemble the original one, do so using screws, not nails.

If not, salvage what you can and build another. Function over form!

Screws are really the way to go. Perhaps if you cannot salvage the one that you have, you can use some of the materials to build a new one. Look at the coop designs here for ideas, there are many who have some really cool designs and have put a lot of thought into them.

Many thanks I will chat my husband up and give him the materials and say what I would like!!!

are you in the UK? you can buy a 6x4 shed for £109 from the major DIY stores at the moment (£87.00 from B&Q this weekend) . with the £50 left you can easily knock up some perches and beef up the shed a bit more. if i wasn't halfway through renovating a coop i bought at a demolition sale i'd go down the shed route. If you don want something that big try a wall storage or bike shed. best wire / mesh supplier i've found is hills of devon http://www.hillsofdevon.co.uk/aviary-mesh.html . hope this helps norm

I built a coop (or 2-3) from free material that I was able to collect over a few weeks. Actually have plenty for several more small to medium coops. Look on Craigs list for stuff and if you have a friend that is good with carpentry they can get it built. Offer them some eggs as payment.
