Hi, I have just built a coop that is 16ft by 8ft and I’m needing ideas for a run, we are planning on 34 chicks and I’m planning to expand in the future, I was planning on making a fence to be atleast 680 sq Ft, we like to give them room to free range, is that too much, too little, or just perfect?

Have you looked into using electric poultry netting?
Yeah I have, I’m not too worried about them breaking out or even stuff getting in, we just want them to have an area for when where not home it will hold them for like 7 hours but when where home the roam the yard. Thankyou though, if I get any more chickens and I do a chicken tractor I will definitely look into that!!!

If your run has several different areas for the gals to get away from a bully, you might be ok. Pallets, chairs, ladders, etc, help. A few different feeders and waters will also help those that may be bullied, so they can eat and drink.

Area sounds pretty good....but...

I would be.
How high will the fence be?

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
